Terms of Use

Last updated · 5 June 2026 Jurisdiction · England & Wales

These terms govern your use of Waystone — the website, web app, and mobile apps — operated by Matt Bramhall, a sole trader in the United Kingdom. By using Waystone you agree to them. They are written plainly and kept short; the headings below are a fair summary, not a substitute for reading them.

Using the service

You are welcome to use Waystone for personal, non-commercial exploration of the historic landscape.

We may suspend or close accounts that abuse the service or these terms.

Accuracy & limitations

Waystone draws on open public records and uses an AI model to weave them into readable stories. This means:

Where the record is silent we try to say so rather than invent — but gaps and errors will exist, especially in beta.

Intellectual property

The Waystone name, logo, design, and software are owned by Matt Bramhall and may not be copied or reused without permission.

The underlying heritage data comes from third parties — including Historic England, Cadw, Coflein, Historic Environment Scotland, the National Library of Scotland, Ordnance Survey, the Environment Agency, and OpenStreetMap — and remains theirs, used under their respective open licences, with their attributions retained in the app.

You are welcome to share individual narrations, screenshots, and links for personal, non-commercial use, with credit to Waystone. Bulk extraction or redistribution of the data or narrations is not permitted.

Beta software

Waystone is in open beta — real and usable, but unfinished.

We share it in this state because we would rather show you the honest thing than wait for perfect.

Liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Subject to that, and to the fullest extent permitted by law, Waystone and its operator are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for any loss arising from your reliance on the accuracy or availability of the service, from decisions made using it, or from your access to any site or location. Waystone is a free beta, provided in good faith but used at your own risk.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time — for example, as the service grows out of beta. When we make material changes we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, give notice in the app. Continuing to use Waystone after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute. If something is wrong, please email [email protected] first — most things are best sorted out directly.
